Spicy Sausage Balls Recipe (Without Bisquick)

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 20 sausage balls

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) spicy ground sausage
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • ½ cup milk (adjust as needed)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. Combine with Sausage and Cheese:
Add the spicy ground sausage and shredded cheddar cheese to the dry mixture. Use your hands or a sturdy spoon to mix everything thoroughly.

  4. Add Milk for Binding:
Gradually add the milk, a little at a time, until the mixture holds together well. It should be slightly sticky but not overly wet.

  5. Shape the Sausage Balls:
Using your hands, roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 to 1 ½ inches in diameter. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.

  6. Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.

  7. Cool and Serve:
Allow the sausage balls to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm as a delicious appetizer or snack!

Tips:

  • You can substitute spicy sausage with mild sausage if you prefer less heat.
  • For extra flavor, mix in chopped fresh parsley or green onions.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.

Enjoy your homemade spicy sausage balls—no Bisquick needed!
